Fernando Alonso Parents | Meet José Luis Alonso & Ana Maria Diaz Martinez

José Luis Alonso

Jose Luis Alonso and Ana Maria Diaz Martinez, Fernando Alonso’s parents, have always supported their boys’ racing ambitions. Even Alonso’s father did not anticipate his making it this far.

Jose Luis Alonso frequently told his son to be grateful for where he’d gotten in life. Despite his lack of racing expertise, his mother, Ana, was always interested in his racing career. Fernando even mentioned in an interview that his mother would sew him racing gear, changing the size of his overalls as he grew older.

On a recent podcast, the two-time Formula One champion briefly acknowledged his family and their role in his career. Fernando also stated during the interview that if he could change one part of his F1 career, it would be winning the title with Ferrari. The Spaniard joined Ferrari in 2010 but left empty-handed in 2014.

Fernando Alonso’s Parents: José Luis Alonso and Ana Maria Diaz Martinez,

Fernando Alonso’s parents were José Luis Alonso and Ana Maria Diaz Martinez, who had two children in Oviedo, Spain. Lorena Alonso, Fernando Alonso’s elder sister, reared him. Jose Luis Alonso is a former go-kart driver who introduced the sport to his children.

Alonso Sr had built a go-kart for his daughter Lorena, but she was uninterested, so he placed Fernando in it. And thus his passion for racing began. Fernando’s parents saw his enthusiasm and began taking him to training when he was three years old. Weekends used to be a nightmare for Alonso’s parents, according to CNN.

They’d have to accompany him for 10 hours to a race and then return home to prepare for work the next day. Fernando Alonso is from a low-income family, and his family does not have the fortune of the world’s billionaires or millionaires. Jose Luis worked as an explosives specialist in Oviedo, while Ana Maria worked at a local store.

According to Fernando Alonso, his parents’ first piece of instruction to him was to be modest. When Alonso made his Formula One debut in 2001, Jose told him that he should enjoy the race since it may be his last.

Jose advised Alonso that even if this was his final race, he could always claim to have competed in a Formula One Grand Prix. During the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix, Alonso stated that his father did not believe he would make it as a professional driver. And, despite being proven wrong, Jose is delighted with the outcome.

Fernando Alonso’s Relationship Issues

Perhaps being very successful at work harms one’s personal life and relationships. Fernando stated in an interview in 2018 that his focus on sports had left him with no friends, family, leisure time, privacy, wife, or children. Formula One has a history of bad collaborations.

Fernando married Raquel del Rosario, a Spanish singer and actress, in 2006. However, they divorced five years later, in 2011. He later became engaged to Lara Alvarez for 16 months until their engagement ended in 2016. After finishing third in the Australian Grand Prix, Alonso announced his divorce from his girlfriend Andrea Schlager earlier this year.

Alonso met Schlager, a sports broadcaster with F1 experience, through their F1 contacts. Alonso announced his divorce on Instagram, hinting that it was amicable. The F1 driver has also kept all of his Instagram posts with Andrea up to date.

Two months after his divorce from Schlager, Alonso was believed to be seeing another Spanish commentator, Melissa Jiminez. The media believes they are in a relationship even though they have not proclaimed it.
