Ciangherotti Diaz, 79, was born on August 23, 1938, in Puerto Escondido. His father is Alejandro Ciangherotti Erbelia, and his mother is Mercedes Soler (Mercedes Diaz Pavia). Both were professional entertainers. Despite this, he was the youngest member of the prestigious Soler family.

He also has a sibling named Alejandro Ciangherotti Jr. While his parents were touring the country to promote a play, he was born in Bogota, Colombia. He never did, however, earn Colombian citizenship. As a result, he was granted US citizenship.

Ciangherotti began his acting career as a child in Mexican cinema under the name Fernando Ciangherotti. After a few years, he changed his stage name to Fernando Luján. He appeared in eight films, the vast majority of them were light comedies. Following his roles in these films, at the age of twenty-three, he won a role in the telenovela Cuatro en la trampa.

He did, however, alternate between film and television for the next eighteen years, culminating in the internationally recognized sitcom Los ricos también lloran. Later in his career, this talented actor avoided telenovelas and acted in only four films in a 12-year span.

In 1991, he returned to television with Vida robada and Cadenas de amargura. This personality appeared in three additional Televisa telenovelas over the course of five years. He later signed a deal with TV Azteca to co-star in the network’s second opera, Mirada de Mujer, alongside Angélica Aragón.

This telenovela was a great hit, and a sequel was released six years later. Following Mirada de Mujer in 1999, he secured important film roles, most notably as the lead in Gabriel Garca Márquez’s novel No One Writes to the Colonel.

‘His performance in this film is outstanding,’ according to the New York Times. In 2005, the Mexican Academy of Film awarded him the Ariel Award for his career and achievements in the film business. This outstanding actor will be honored as a “movie icon” during the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony on February 9, 2020.
