Since the terrible passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins last year, the Foo Fighters have announced their first live dates. This summer, the group, fronted by Dave Grohl, will perform as the headlining act at three US festivals: Boston Calling, Sonic Temple, and Bonnaroo.
The announcement comes shortly after the band promised to keep playing together after Hawkins passed away.
The celebrity was discovered unconscious in his hotel room in March of last year, just before he was scheduled to perform in Colombia.
Although there was no given cause of death, a toxicology investigation revealed that he had residues of 10 different drugs, including opiates, marijuana, and antidepressants.
If the medications’ combination played a role, the investigators did not say so.
In September, the Foo Fighters performed two memorial concerts for Hawkins in London and Los Angeles, with Miley Cyrus, Queen, Paul McCartney, Alanis Morrisette, and Cars among the performers.
The band’s comeback to the stage will take place over this summer’s festival dates, though they may perform a few smaller warm-up gigs beforehand.
The band informed its fans in a statement on New Year’s Eve that they had decided to carry on without Hawkins, who had been a member of the group since 1997.
In reference to how Grohl’s former band, Nirvana, had come to an end with the passing of frontman Kurt Cobain, the band wrote: “Foo Fighters were created 27 years ago to signify the healing power of music and a continuation of life.”
“Over the past 27 years, our fans have created a global community, a loyal support network that has assisted us all in getting through the most trying periods. a location where we can come together to sing the chorus of life via music, sharing our joy and grief, dreams, and anxieties.
“Without Taylor, we would never have developed into the band that we are today, and without Taylor, we are aware that we will change as a band moving ahead.”
Who will succeed Hawkins has not yet been revealed.
A revolving cast of friends and family performed in his place at the tribute concerts in September, including Travis Barker of Blink-182, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh Freese of Devo, and Shane, Hawkins’ adolescent son.
