Mr. Lee was discovered unconscious on a San Francisco street early on April 4, and he later perished.

In court documents, prosecutors referred to Mr. Lee’s murder as a “planned and deliberate attack.” They outlined the sequence of events leading to his demise.

On the afternoon of April 3, the witness, Mr. Lee, and Mr. Momeni’s sister, Khazar Elyassnia, were drinking with companions in an apartment. The witness stated that Mr. Momeni confronted Mr. Lee about his relationship with Mrs. Elyassnia.

According to prosecutors, he asked Mr. Lee if his sister was “doing drugs or anything inappropriate.” Mr. Lee “had to reassure [Mr. Momeni] that nothing improper had occurred.”

Mrs. Elyassnia is married to a prominent Bay Area plastic surgeon; the witness stated that they were unaware of her relationship with Mr. Lee.

Following the exchange, investigators discovered a text message from Mrs. Elyassnia to Mr. Lee.

“Just checking in to see how you’re doing,” read the message. “Because I know my nima was extremely harsh with you. And thank you for being such a gentleman and managing the situation with dignity.”

Bob Lee arrived at Mrs. Elyssnia’s residence just after midnight. Mr. Momeni was already present; surveillance footage reveals that Mr. Lee and Mr. Momeni left together in Mr. Momeni’s BMW a half-hour before the homicide.

The prosecution asserts that Mr. Momeni drove to a remote location and stabbed Mr. Lee with a kitchen knife.

Mr. Momeni, the founder of the software company Expand IT, appeared in court for the first time on Friday and was ordered detained without bail until his arraignment on April 25. Also present were Mr. Momeni’s sister and her spouse.
