After the highly anticipated 2023 Australian Open campaign, Tiafoe claimed that a strong relationship with a physical therapist helped him avoid surgery.
The tennis player had to decide between surgery and physical treatment after suffering an elbow injury. Tiafoe said that he was anxious since the procedure would need four to six months.
According to P.R. Newswire, the professional tennis player’s elbow injury that jeopardized his career was treated by physical therapist Lance Kelly and orthopedic surgeon Wiemi Douoguih of MedStar Health.
Kelly assisted him in healing naturally. His neck and shoulder needed to be strengthened because they were the main contributors to his elbow pain.
After the therapy, Tiafoe performed better and hit his fastest serve ever. Additionally, he grew close to Kelly, who accompanies him to competitions and inspires him to succeed.
The talented athlete had a breakout year in 2022, where he defeated Rafael Nadal and advanced to the U.S. Open quarterfinals.
