Frank Ocean Withdraws From Coachella’s Second Weekend Headlining Performance

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean will not perform his second headlining set at Coachella this weekend due to criticism of his first performance last weekend. Blink-182 will replace him.

This was Ocean’s first public performance in six years. Nonetheless, there was widespread criticism regarding the ‘chaos’ of the performance, despite the fact that many admirers were simply glad to see him return.

Not only did Ocean’s performance begin an hour later than anticipated, but he also abandoned an ice rink onstage at the last minute and was reportedly suffering from an ankle injury.

The official reason given for Ocean’s withdrawal from his second Coachella concert is the additional injury he sustained to his leg following his first performance.

One of the singer’s representatives issued the following statement:

“Frank Ocean will not be performing at Coachella weekend 2.”

“After suffering a leg injury on festival grounds in the week preceding weekend 1, he missed the first weekend.”

Frank Ocean was unable to perform the planned show but was still determined to perform, so the performance was reworked in 72 hours due to necessity.

Due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg, [Ocean] cannot participate in weekend 2 per the doctor’s orders.

In a direct message from Ocean himself, the singer added, via his representative,

“It was chaos. There is beauty in disorder. I will see you shortly.”

Despite some criticism, Ocean provided an update on his next album following 2016’s Blonde; however, the nature of his announcement will not be to everyone’s liking.

Ocean told the audience five songs into his performance,

“I want to speak about why I’m here because it’s not about a new album,” pausing before adding, “not that there isn’t a new album… just not at this time.”

Therefore, despite seven years of waiting, supporters will have to wait a little longer.

According to Variety, Ocean will be replaced by Blink-182, a message verified by the band’s Tom DeLonge via Instagram:

“See you Sunday night.”

It was DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker’s first live performance since 2014 when they performed a classics-filled set during the inaugural weekend of Coachella.
