“Many people are unaware that, in addition to being a generally pleasant man, he had a fantastic sense of humor (he frequently tweeted stupid jokes) and was an ardent reader. Fred generously donated the money he couldn’t afford to the Hudson Valley Human Society when I held a contest to name a character in my novel Ragman.”

Faherty noticed that Fred had requested a major role in the novel, so he made him a police officer assisting with a murder investigation. He continued by saying that his most recent contact with the actor was before Thanksgiving when he informed him that his contributor copy was on its way.

The author ended his tribute post by saying:

“I’m not sure whether he ever had the opportunity since he ended up in the hospital a few days later. “I hope he did.”

Fred the Elephant Boy appeared on The Howard Stern Show for a long time

He was a member of the Wack Pack on The Howard Stern Show. The group’s name refers to characters who have appeared frequently on the show. Members include Bigfoot, Daniel Carver, Debbie the Pet Lady, Irish John, Joey Boots, Junior the Father, and others.

The show’s host, Howard Stern, said Fred was one of his favorites and that they first met in 1988. The late actor was chosen for the former’s program after impressing him with his one-of-a-kind speech. According to Howardstern.com:

“When we first met him, he was a 30-year-old virgin, and we helped him get laid for the first time… “I thought the play was a great addition to this guy’s life.”

Fred accepted Howard’s Billboard Top Broadcaster Award on his behalf in 1994. Howard stated at a Cleveland event that he chose Fred because he was a public speaking expert. Fred the Elephant Boy was also invited to a summer conference, where he asked Congress to change a rule that requires ALS patients to receive Social Security disability payments after only five months.
