In the crash south of Paris, 54-year-old Pierre Palmade left three individuals in the other vehicle gravely injured. After causing a fatal head-on collision while under the influence of cocaine, a well-known French comedian known for his battle with drug addiction is facing prosecution.
A pregnant woman miscarried. In the hospital, her brother-in-law and his six-year-old kid are receiving intensive care.
Two young males in their 20s reportedly escaped from Mr. Palmade’s vehicle after the collision and are being sought by police.
The accident, which occurred on a tiny road in the French commune of Villiers-en-Bière on Friday evening, has devastated French society.
His struggles with heroin addiction have been well-documented for years, despite the fact that he has been in multiple Asterix films and is well-known for his TV and stage appearances. He admitted himself to critical care, but his health has since stabilized.
After visiting him in the hospital on Tuesday, Mr. Palmade’s sister Hélène released a statement stating that he was “waking up gradually and realizing the horror of what has happened, what he has caused” and that “he is horrified and humiliated.”
It is anticipated that the performer will be charged with driving under the influence of narcotics and causing injuries by driving recklessly.
However, he could be charged with involuntary homicide if it is determined that the baby girl was alive when she was delivered via Caesarean section at the hospital following the crash.
The woman was staying with her in-laws, and her brother-in-law volunteered to transport her home with his son. The 38-year-old man has an eight-year-old son and an infant of seven months.
The family’s attorney, Mourad Battikh, said at a news conference how the 27-year-old woman managed to exit the vehicle before collapsing. He recalled how she was “instinctively thinking of the baby in her womb and screaming baby, my baby!’ over and over again.”
It was her first child, and she was expected to deliver in May. The attorney indicated that she was upset and desired to stay nameless in an effort to rebuild her life.
Since he was crushed between his seat and the steering wheel, her brother-in-law is in intensive care. In recent days, he has had half a dozen procedures.
The collision damaged his son, who required surgery for a fractured jaw, the attorney added.
The family, described by the attorney as ordinary and hardworking, has rejected the comedian’s apology and stated that they would like to see him put into police custody without any preferential treatment due to his celebrity.
Mister Palmade will accept the repercussions of his acts with the horrible awareness that he will never be able to restore the damage he has created, according to his sister.
The comedian was convicted of cocaine possession in 1995, and he was again arrested for a narcotics offense in 2019. He has frequently acknowledged his issues with substance abuse in talks with the media.
The catastrophe has reignited the discussion about drugged driving and the need for stricter controls.
