Actress Jane Hazlegrove from Corrie proposed casting her as a doppelgänger since she frequently gets mistaken for Glaister in public. According to Metro, Hazlegrove presented Jonathan Harvey with the idea and Harvey developed it. Gabrielle Glaister’s character Fern will be remembered for her shady antics and distinctive sense of style.
What position did Gabrielle Glaister hold on Coronation Street before?
From February 6 through November 10, 2000, Gabrielle Glaister made an appearance on Coronation Street. She played Debs Brownlow, who broke up with Duggie Ferguson and moved in with Natalie Horrocks’ (Denise Welch) boyfriend Vinny Sorrell (Ian Kelsey) (John Bowe).
Debs Brownlow portrayed Natalie Horrocks’ beautician sister in the episode. She resided with her for nine months while working as a hairdresser in Audrey’s salon. When Gabrielle Glaister was granted the role of Debs at the time, she was excited to be a part of the ensemble and work with Denise Welch, a.k.a. her sister Natalie. She remarked:
“I love Coronation Street a lot, and I’m excited to work with Denise.” I just hope that knowing what’s going to happen won’t ruin my viewing experience.
She won’t play Debs again this time; instead, she’ll portray Fern, a completely different character. Jane claimed that it was the similarity in their appearances that made her think about bringing Gabrielle Glaister to the cast as they discussed a potential story that would have been perfect for her and Gabrielle. According to Entertainment Daily, she stated:
“Gabby and I frequently get confused for one another, with people claiming to have seen one of us in something when it was the other… We’ve often made fun of it, but I figured it may be funny to have her on the show as Bernie’s doppelganger or hidden twin.
Gabrielle continued to convey her excitement by explaining how other entertainers occasionally confuse her with Jane. She stated:
“Jane and I have been confused for one another for years and years. While I insisted on being in Casualty, Jane insisted on being in Brookside! Or I might get praise for a performance I didn’t give because Jane was so great.
Information on the resumption of Gabrielle Glaister’s acting career
In one of the pictures, Gabrielle can be seen sporting a vivid tie-dye blouse with a pink jacket, while in another, she’s sporting a bright blue jacket with a gray t-shirt. The Daily Mail claims that Gabrielle was spotted in one of the pictures carrying a large black rucksack while donning blue medical gloves!
Spoiler alert: Bernie gets charged with stealing from Fern in the latest episode, and the two then dazzle the audience with their superb acting skills. Working with Jane, a longtime friend, and coworker, is something Gabrielle added that she is “having a terrific time” doing.
