Gayle King and William Bumpus married in 1982, but their courtship ended in 1993. After the divorce, the former kept silent for some time and did not explain why she divorced her then-partner, Bumpus.
Gayle first revealed her affair with Will Smith in a Sirius FM broadcast in 2006.
“I was married to a liar.” I sought marital counseling. I’ve been divorced since 1993, therefore I’m completely healed. I figured it out. I’m not angry. I’m OK. “I’m perfectly fine.”
Will Smith, the MIB actor, was instructed by King.

Gayle King would speak about her affair again ten years later, in 2016. It happened during her Vanity Fair interview. During the Q&A, King expressed her displeasure with the woman she saw naked with her ex-husband.
At the time, King said that she had witnessed her ex-husband Bumpus and his mistress having sex. The Maryland-born journalist went on to explain in more detail, saying,
“‘Hate’ is a harsh word. I don’t like the woman I saw naked with my now-ex-husband on June 24, 1990, at 9:16 p.m.—but I don’t remember the details.”
The second woman is said to be one of Gayle’s close pals.
During a public interview with Oprah Winfrey and her friends in July 2019, King also revealed what the lady with whom her husband was sleeping told her at the time.
The Psychology graduate told Oprah that her putative companion never expressed regret for the treachery and that she disliked the CBS anchor.
King also admitted to Oprah that she finds it difficult to make new acquaintances. In response, Winfrey stated that it could have been due of her previous interactions with the purported friend who was the other woman.
After more than two decades, King’s former partner apologized to her.
More than two decades after being unfaithful to his ex-wife, King’s ex-husband and the one who cheated on the author delivered a public apology. Bumpus, a Connecticut-based lawyer, sent a letter to the media apologizing for his actions.
“This life-altering decision has haunted me.” Though I have dealt with this privately, I would like to publicly apologize for the major transgression that has significantly altered all of our lives.”
Gayle’s ex-partner stated.
Bumpus also stated that he admired Gayle for how she handled herself and their children in those situations.
In the present, everything appear to be well between Gayle and Bumpus, since the former states that children come first, despite parental differences.
Gayle King has two adult children from her previous marriage to Bumpus. Kirby Bumpus and William Bumpus Jr. are her offspring. Both of her children are successful in their own right. Kirby is the Sweetgreen Head of Social Impact and Inclusion, and her son William is the Headspace Chief of Staff.
Oprah Winfrey was skeptical of Gayle King’s ex-husband from the start.
During one of her interviews with King, Oprah mentioned her failed marriage and expressed her belief that King’s marriage to Bumpus would not survive long. In an interview with The O Magazine, Oprah stated that she was not happy during King’s wedding to Bumpus. The wealthy show presenter claimed that she didn’t sense anything extraordinary between Bumpus and King during their wedding.
Winfrey, the media mogul, stated that she chose not to express her thoughts out loud because she felt it was not her place to do so.
Winfrey, 69, and King, 68, had known each other since they were in their early twenties.
Gayle King remarried after her divorce from her husband?
As previously said, little is known regarding King’s current dating life.
There is very little information available on King’s romantic relationships. King, on the other hand, admitted in an interview that she has utilized online dating platforms in the past. During a talk with Drew Barrymore, she revealed her preference for a more private approach to internet dating. Rather than engaging with someone she doesn’t know, King prefers to meet new individuals through mutual friends or at social occasions.
As of today, Gayle appears to be without a husband or even a boyfriend. It also appears less likely that she has a husband behind the scenes because she is always in the media, and if there was a wedding, it would not have remained a secret for that long.

The whatevs of William’s marital elements, like Gayle’s personal life, are also under the spotlight. In fact, Bumpus has been more remote than his ex-wife King.
However, according to his Facebook, Bumpus is currently in a relationship with Jane Neu. While little is known about their relationship, the couple appears to have begun dating in October 2020.
