It was one of the most significant reform efforts in more than four decades, and it was on par with the Army’s three highest-ranking commands: Army Forces Command, Army Materiel Command, and Army Training and Doctrine Command.

Milley, who advised the Biden administration on the risks and perils of withdrawing soldiers from Afghanistan, later indicated that he was unaware of any intelligence assessments indicating that the Taliban could take over Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul in 11 days. Many people are criticizing Milley’s decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan, especially because he previously indicated that doing so would be perilous, prompting a discussion. Some officials, such as Utah’s 2nd District Congressman Chris Stewart, have called for Milley to resign and accept responsibility for the chaos that followed Kabul’s collapse on August 15, 2021.
