English football right-back George Reginald Cohen MBE. Georspent his whole career at Fulham and helped England win the 1966 World Cup. He was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame as Ben Cohen’s uncle.
Cohen played only for Fulham, signing in 1956 and retiring in March 1969 due to injury. The season before George departed, Fulham was relegated to the Second Division and would not return to the top level for 33 years. Only five Fulham players have played more. Bowel cancer struck George Cohen in 1976 and lasted 14 years. He campaigned for dementia research and the condition that killed his 1966 teammate and captain Bobby Moore. Cohen pledged to give his brain to science in 2017. Ben Cohen, his nephew, won the 2003 Rugby World Cup for England. In 2016, a Craven Cottage statue was unveiled to honor his service to the club. It debuted that October.

Every home game, he hosted lunch at Craven Cottage’s George Cohen Restaurant. Cohen opposed 2010 football design modifications after the Adidas Jabulani was heavily condemned in the 2010 World Cup. George made his England debut a month later in a 2-1 win against Uruguay under Alf Ramsey. Cohen played 21 of 23 internationals after Armfield’s injury and the World Cup.
