A well-known politician and Labor Party representative in New Zealand is Georgina Beyer. Georgina made history by being the first openly transgender mayor in the world when she was chosen to rule Carterton in 1995.
In 2005, Beyer became the first openly transgender member of a parliament in history. The parliamentarian was also one of the very small numbers of ex-sex workers who attained political office.
Beyer worked as a sex worker and nightclub performer before going into politics. 1995 saw her elected mayor of Carterton, a small settlement on the North Island. Four years later, she won the national election for the liberal Labour Party, and she served as an MP until 2007.
Despite admitting he didn’t know Beyer well personally, New Zealand’s prime minister Chris Hipkins was aware of her enormous popularity there and her strong impact on the national legislature. Georgina Beyer’s Cause of Death
The reason for Georgina Beyer’s death has not been disclosed by her family, friends, or medical facilities. Friends claim that Beyer peacefully died while receiving medical attention. The family may eventually get access to the medical records after this trying period has passed. After four years of end-stage renal failure requiring daily dialysis, Beyer previously had kidney failure and had a kidney transplant in 2017.
However, it is uncertain if Georgina Beyer’s death resulted from a renal condition or another illness. The legislator took part in the Prostitution Reform Act of 2003, a landmark law that decriminalized sex work. She also fought to enact a law in 2004 that permitted same-sex civil unions. Same-sex unions became lawful in New Zealand nine years later.
Beyer formerly participated in Wellington’s gay nightlife, initially appearing as a singer and drag queen before transitioning into the sex industry. Georgina moved to Carterton in the Wairarapa and began working as a radio broadcaster there. Beyer was the regional newscaster and a founding employee of the Today FM morning team while it was operated by Paul Henry. Additionally, as part of the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honors, Beyer was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for contributions to LGBTIQA+ rights.

On Monday afternoon, a buddy named Scott Kennedy sent a message stating that Beyer had gone suddenly to a hospital around 3.30 pm. Kennedy said that Beyer embraced her religion and laughed till her last breath while Georgina was surrounded by her loved ones the whole previous week.
On March 6, 2023, at 3.30 pm, the politician passed away quietly at Mary Potter Hospice. Beyer had said that she wanted to honor anyone who could have been transgender but chose not to come out. Despite the politician’s wish for no funeral, Georgina’s friends announced in the media that they would shortly plan a memorial event in her honor. In a tweet, former Labor minister and United Future leader Peter Dunne described Beyer as a “natural, committed trailblazer” who would be missed.
