In October 2018, he wed Jennifer Robertson in Scotland, according to reports made public after his passing. He will take his bride on a honeymoon once a month has passed. Gerald Cotten carries out the provisions of his Will, which names his wife as the only executor of his inheritance.
He and his wife Jennifer left on a trip to India on November 30 and arrived in New Delhi first. On December 8, Gerald Cotten and his wife traveled to Jaipur and stayed at the Oberoi Rajvilas as part of their four-day pre-arrangements. On December 12, they were all ready to travel to Hyderabad.

Gerald originally managed local trading when he first founded Quadriga. With the help of his company Quadriga, Gerald constructed a Bitcoin ATM in Vancouver in 2014. With his exchange Quadriga, he was able to exchange $7.4 million in Canadian currency for Bitcoin.
Using this exchange, he went on to raise money and was successful in getting his company listed on the TSX. He gave up trying to list Quadriga on the CSE in 2016 despite having $850000 in Canadian money.
In 2017, as the price of Bitcoin rose from $1000 to $20,000, Gerald was able to swap 1.2 billion Canadian dollars at his Quadriga exchange.
Unfortunately, investors in QuaridgaCX faced a substantial loss after his passing in December 2018 since USD 142 million in Bitcoins were unavailable in offline wallets that were locked up.
