Gerrit Cole, a 29-year-old, American baseball star was born on the 8th of September 1990 to a father Mark and mother Sharon Cole, a native of Newport Beach, California. Furthermore, he was raised together with his young sister, Erin Cole. His father, Mark was raised in Syracuse, New York who is a big fan of New York Yankees, so growing up cole, he eventually started having an interest in baseball and became a diehard fan of the Yankees.

Cole started his schooling at Orange Lutheran High School. During his sophomore year, He pitched for the school’s junior varsity baseball team, allowing no runs in 45 innings pitched.

Minor leagues and Pittsburgh Pirates

In 2011, Cole signed a minor league contract with the highest bonus signed to a rookie of $8 million. Moreover, following year with an option to play in the Minor Leagues, he was called a non-roster invitee to spring training for Pirates.

In 2012 season with the Bradenton Marauders of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League, along with fellow starting pitcher Jameson Taillon, the Pirates’ first selection in the 2010 MLB draft. He also starred in All-Star Futures Game the same year.

In the year 2013 Cole was the first Pirate to start his career with wins in his first four starts aside from Nick Maddox in 1907. The same year he was also voted the National League (NL) Rookie of the Month for September.

After being promoted to Major league in 2013, he made his debut in MLB with recorded career hit, a two-run single and bases loaded.

On September 7, 2014, Cole was able to hit first career home run at Wrigley Field off of Chicago Cubs pitcher Blake Parker. On September 23, Cole also helped the Pirates clinch a second consecutive playoff berth by beating Alex Wood and the Atlanta Braves.

In 2016, Cole pitched his first complete game against the Seattle Mariners. Cole was 12–12 with a 4.26 ERA and led the National League with 33 starts in 2017.

In 2018, Gerrit was traded to the Houston Astros for Jason Martin, Joe Musgrove, Colin Moran, and Michael Feliz.

On December 18, 2019, Cole signed a new nine-year contract worth $324 million with the Yankees. The contract allows Cole to opt-out if he wants to become a free agent again after the fifth year.
