Berejiklian was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in 2003 after winning the Willoughby electoral district. She was Treasurer and Minister for Industrial Relations under the second Baird government, and Transport Minister under the O’Farrell and first Baird administrations. Her father was born in Aleppo, Syria, where she still has connections, and Turkish soldiers orphaned her grandparents during the 1915 Armenian massacre.

The former politician graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts in 1992, a Graduate Diploma in International Studies in 1996, and a Masters in Commerce in 2001. She joined the Liberal Party in 1993 and served as the New South Wales Young  Liberals’ third female president from 1997 to 1998.

She was also an Urban Representative on the State Executive of the NSW Liberal Party, a State Council Delegate, the Campaign Director for the Willoughby State seat, and the Chair of the Convention Committee.
