Victoria Newton, who worked for the Sun in London, provided him with shifts, which ultimately led to a contract with the News of the World for a period of three months.
In 2004, Smart began working for Victoria Newton at The Sun’s Bizarre section as an assistant for Victoria.
In 2013, he was one of the people who saw the tragic helicopter accident that occurred at the Glasgow “Clutha” Pub and resulted in the deaths of ten people.
In May of 2016, Smart took a job as the deputy editor at the London edition of the Sun newspaper, but he abruptly left his position there in November in order to focus on other professional and broadcasting endeavors.
