Sean Hickey and Gold participated in their first junior competition at the 2007 US Junior Championship. They came in seventh, and Gracie went on to place fourth in the beginning division at the 2010 US Championships, three years later.

2012 saw her make her debut abroad after taking home the Junior Grand Prix gold. She took home the gold in the junior division at the US Championship later that year. If Gold’s team had taken home the World Squad Trophy, she could have made $1 million.

Gracie and her squad did, however, finish sixth in the competition. Gracie won the gold medal in the ISU Grand Prix Series at Skate Canada in 2013. It should be noted that in 2013, the ISU Grand Prix prize money for each event stayed at $180,000.

The athlete kept winning accolades and medals; in 2014, she won her first NHK Trophy. She also won a bronze medal in the Olympics in Sochi, Russia, the same year. Gracie has already won her second national title and her first world championship in Boston in 2015.

Gracie writes in her autobiography that she was sexually assaulted at an after-party at an event when she was 21 years old by a fellow skater. Five years after the incident, Gracie reported it to the US Center for SafeSport. According to Gold, she is unsure of how the lawsuit has been handled. Gracie acknowledges that she has been a critical perfectionist her entire life.

Gracie explains in her biography how her eating disorder deteriorated during the 2014 Olympics. After having difficulty competing in the 2016 World Championships, Gracie experienced abuse and was thinking about taking her own life by the time of her next competitive season. She had also put on fifty pounds, and she left for inpatient treatment in Arizona after enrolling in the program.

It has been determined that Gracie suffers from anxiety, depression, and minor OCD. Gracie stated in a recent interview that while she still enjoys skating, she believes that some skaters and the skating community as a whole need to change and advance.
