Just as he was starting to fulfill his dream of joining the organization, Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was killed in a shooting on Tuesday afternoon near Hagersville, Ontario.
Pierzchala’s age was 28.
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique said at a late-night press conference on Tuesday, “Our hearts are genuinely torn as a policing family.”
According to Carrie, Grzegorz Pierzchala, an OPP member who joined the agency over a year ago, responded to a report of a car in a ditch close to Indian Line and Concession 14 shortly after 2:30 p.m.
He asserted that when the policeman drew up and approached, two of the car’s passengers opened fire.
Two suspects, a 25-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, were seen leaving the area in a car, and police immediately began searching for them. OPP issued a warning advising people to stay indoors as they looked for the suspect.
Only one of the alleged culprits in the warning was named—Randall McKenzie—but police shared photographs of them all. The two males are wanted, and the police believe they might be armed.
The alert was subsequently canceled when the offenders were captured. It is unknown where they were taken captive.
According to Carrique, none of the general population was in immediate danger while they were roving. They were detained in a brief amount of time.

Police claim that an OPP officer was fatally wounded after being shot in Haldimand County while attending to a complaint.
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique identified the deceased officer on Tuesday night as Const. Grzegorz Pierzchala, who died while “courageously serving in the line of duty.”
