The German newspaper Bild claims that a former member of the religious community named Phillip F. is suspected of being responsible for the gun spree that left many people critically injured.
Nevertheless, no details about Phillip F.’s arrest have been released to the public due to the sensitive nature of the situation.

The dead were there for a bible study at the Jehovah’s Witness congregation, which began at seven o’clock local time. Police reportedly arrived approximately fifteen minutes after the attack started, which started at 9 p.m., two hours later.

A police official had earlier said that authorities were looking into the possibility that the gunman was one of the several victims found at the scene.
When police got to the location of the call, they found wounded and dead persons on the ground level where an event was taking place, according to Hamburg Police spokesperson Holger Vehren.
