Kate Garraway was overtaken with emotion when discussing her husband Derek Draper’s health issues on Friday’s Lorraine.
He required rapid transfer to critical care due to sepsis, which led to his hospital admission during the summer.
The 55-year-old broadcaster stated that his love for her “has no end point” and that her new normal could be “exhausting” for those around her.
After being hospitalized with COVID-19 in March 2020, Draper was transferred to an intensive care unit.
In early June 2020, he was still in an induced coma and severe condition after 10 weeks.
The next month, he opened his eyes, but he was still in the hospital and serious condition. He was still receiving medical treatment in March 2021, one year after contracting the illness.
Draper’s wife sent him an update in May 2021 and claimed that her husband was still bedridden and depressed over COVID-19. In April 2021, Draper briefly went back home.
In September 2021, according to his wife, he was still receiving 24-hour care and slept 20 hours per day.
He had therapy in Mexico in February and March 2022, but Draper’s wife has opted to hide details.
In April 2022, she admitted that Draper was having problems speaking: “He can understand, sometimes do funny words, but can’t articulate himself.” Draper still needs 24-hour care as of April 2022.

An English broadcaster and journalist by the name of Kate Garraway. Garraway was an ITV News Central correspondent. Later, she joined ITV News Meridian as a co-host.
