The US Coast Guard spent hours searching the waters off Louisiana for the four passengers of a chopper that crashed Thursday as it was leaving an oil station.
According to Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Keefe, search and rescue mission coordinator for the Coast Guard’s Sector New Orleans, the decision to end a search is always difficult.
It was unknown whether the search would resume on Friday morning.
According to Petty Officer Jose Hernandez, a spokesman for the Coast Guard’s 8th District, which has its main office in New Orleans, the helicopter pilot and three oil personnel died in the Gulf of Mexico at 8:40 a.m. CST.

One passenger’s family, 36-year-old David Scarborough, has been waiting and suffering for days.
Lacy Scarborough, his wife, stated that she had been trying to get information on the search for her husband’s body for days with no success.

David Scarborough had just concluded a two-week shift and was on his way home to spend Christmas with his family after eight years of working offshore.
Lacy, his wife, is expecting their second child after losing their first child to unintentional drowning in March. Scarborough was also the nephew of a WLOX team member.
We’re also seeking to learn more about Tim Graham, a passenger from Quitman, Mississippi.
According to a Thursday night story in the Clarke County Tribune, Graham was one of four men on board.

According to US Coast Guard officer Jose Hernandez, the helicopter is owned by Rotorcraft Leasing Company.
The company has not yet issued a statement regarding the accident or the identities of the passengers or the pilot.
This was the aircraft manufacturer’s third crash in 2022. On December 15, a Rotorcraft helicopter crashed near Terrebonne Bay, Louisiana, leaving three passengers stranded.
This was the most recent incident. The passengers were eventually rescued by the American Coast Guard.
A Rotorcraft helicopter crashed into a swamp near Lafourche Parish on January 14, killing the pilot and a passenger. This was the first deadly accident of the year.
The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed on Thursday that it was investigating the most recent crash.

According to a check of the NTSB records, 12 more Rotorcraft crashes with 10 fatalities occurred after 2004.
The NTSB results for all three of the Company’s crashes in 2022 have yet to be published.
The NTSB website states that the agency attempts to complete an investigation within 12 to 24 months, but this can vary depending on the complexity of the investigation and the workload of its investigators.
