Hirai Momo- Biography

Hirai Momo, better known as Momo, is a Japanese singer and dancer. She is well recognized for her role as the lead dancer, supporting vocalist, and sub-rapper in the K-pop group ‘Twice.’ Momo, who is incredibly skilled, began dancing at the age of three, following in the footsteps of her elder sister. Hirai also began singing at this age and became interested in K-pop music after watching Lee Hyori and Rain. She later appeared on the reality TV show ‘Sixteen,’ and later on ‘Twice.’

Hirai Momo was born in Kyoto, Japan on November 9, 1996. In Japanese, her name translates to “peach.” Hana Hirai, her elder sister, is her name. On April 13, 2012, Momo and her sister auditioned for JYP Entertainment. She, on the other hand, was the only one who survived.
Momo is the most confident when it comes to dancing to urban music. She also enjoys dancing to hip-hop music. In third grade, she was a member of the “Barbie” dance group. Momo trained at Step Out Dance Studio throughout her childhood. Her parents were initially opposed to her chosen profession.

JYP Entertainment scouted Hirai Momo when executives viewed a dancing video of her with her elder sister. She went to an audition and was chosen. Momo then relocated to South Korea to further her training, eventually becoming a K-pop idol. In 2014, she appeared in GOT7’s “Stop Stop It” music video as well as Junho’s “Feel.” She appeared in Miss A’s “Only You” and Wooyoung’s “R.O.S.E.” a year later. Momo also appeared on the reality show ‘Sixteen’ in 2015. Despite being eliminated in the sixth episode, she was later reintroduced in the series finale.

Momo and her band published their debut mini-album named ‘The Story Begins’ in 2015, after founding the group ‘Twice’ with Chou Tzu-yu, Kim Dahyun, and Son Chae-young. Since then, the Japanese singer has worked with the ensemble as a vocalist and dancer. Min Kyung-hoon and Kim Hee-chul released a digital single titled “Kim Hee-chul” in the fall of 2016 “”Dream sweetly.” Hirai Momo starred in the song’s music video. Momo also appeared in the music video for Park Jin Young’s “Fire” that year, alongside Jimin Park, Conan O’Brien, and Steven Yeun.
