- At Dankook University, Hong Chul started out as a young football player. He joined Seongnam IIhwa Chunma in 2010, which marked the beginning of his professional career. After making 68 appearances and scoring six goals, he left the team in 2012.
- He was a member of the squads that won the FA Cup in 2011 and the AFC Champions League in 2010.
Chul was acquired by Suwon Samsung Bluewings on January 1, 2013, for an estimated market price of €1.25 million. He has two goals to his credit from 105 outings. The 2016 FA Cup was presented to him and his team. - Chul was loaned to Sangju Sangmu on December 6, 2016, and he was kept by them until September 4, 2018.
