Joe Bastianich was born to working parents in Astoria, Queens, New York, in September 1968. They were eager to open their restaurants, which encouraged the opening of additional Italian restaurants.

In truth, Joe attended Fordham Preparatory School and then worked in his parent’s Felidia restaurant in Manhattan before enrolling in college. Later, he studied political science and philosophy while attending Boston College.

After graduating, Joe started working as a trader on Wall Street, but he soon moved into the food industry. This inspired him to travel to Italy in 1993, where he established his first Becco restaurant. Then he opened Babbo Ristorante e Enoteca, which was an immediate hit. It was the first Italian restaurant to receive three stars from The New York Times in forty years.

Following this achievement, he went on to build seven additional eateries in New York, including Eataly, Lupa, Esc Escape, Casa Mono, Bar Jamon, and Otto. The new show’s 12th season will debut on May 25 at 8 p.m. ET.
