Hugh Grant, an actor, and his wife, Anna Eberstein, contributed £10,000 to a group that offers vulnerable individuals free plumbing.
Depher’s founder, James Anderson, referred to the actor as a “foundation and rock” after he gave £55,000 during the previous year.
However, because it also came from Anna, the plumber from Burnley stated, “this time it feels more personal because it’s from one family to another.”
It has been both humble and heavenly.
For the organization to continue offering services throughout the UK despite rising energy prices, the couple donated to crowdfunding on Saturday.
After assisting those in need who had inadequate heating and plumbing, Mr. Anderson, a Liverpool native, founded Depher, Disability, and Elderly Plumbing and Heating Emergency Repair, in 2017.
He gained notoriety after he declined to bill an elderly client for boiler repair services.
He claimed that as a community interest business (CIC), it was dependent on donations to offer free services throughout the winter.
Earlier this week, he told BBC Breakfast that “people are constantly coming for food, gas, power, plumbing, and heating obviously since it’s getting colder.
And a lot of individuals are coming to us looking for assistance with loan sharks, debts, and building problems.
Last year, Mr. Anderson stated that he had not received a paycheck since the first lockdown began and that he thought he might have to close down Depher due to a shortage of money brought on by the epidemic.
Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng’s Friday announcement of tax reduction, according to Mr. Anderson, was “not at all relevant.”
If the government doesn’t handle it properly, “there will be a lot of people left out in the cold and a lot of people left to die.”
The top rate of income tax and anticipated increases in company taxation, according to Mr. Kwarteng, would be eliminated, but it prompted criticism for favoring the wealthy.
The chancellor announced more tax cuts on Sunday to allow people to “retain more of their money.”
