Before her appearance at President Trump’s inaugural ball in 2017, Chrisette Michele had a nearly spotless musical career, with songs and albums that established her as one of the most powerful voices of her generation.
Following her performance, the New York native faced widespread criticism from the African-American community for endorsing Trump’s presidency; some even labeled her a “sell-out.”
As a result of the saga, her song Black Girl Magic was removed from the upcoming Netflix series “She’s Gotta Have It.” In retaliation, Chrisette’s manager and soon-to-be husband, Doug, wrote an open letter to the show’s creator, Spike Lee, defending her honor.
The Be OK hitmaker, 35, and her husband prospect Doug, on the other hand, are far from the ideal couple. Chrisette and Husband Prospect’s Whirlwind Romance: From Lawsuits to Soon-To-Be Married
Unlike other marriages where problems arise after the fact, Chrisette and her future husband Doug “Biggs” Ellison’s problems began long before they became romantically involved. Biggs, the CEO of Four Kings Production, was instrumental in helping the Ashton Martin Music singer land her first record label deal with Def Jam. Chrisette released his debut album “I Am” in 2007 with the support of Def Jam and Biggs as manager and love interest.
By then, their relationship had already soured due to a contract dispute, among other things, which resulted in Chrisette filing a lawsuit against Biggs’ Four Kings Production, accusing him of money embezzlement.
Biggs filed a countersuit three years later, accusing the Epiphany soulstress of engaging in illegal activity to get out of her Def Jam contract.
The couple would be estranged for seven years before Chrisette Michele decided to write her feelings in an email to her then-estranged lover Biggs. Biggs then wrote that he had “never stopped loving” her.
The couple got engaged just a few days after reuniting. The former Motown signee announced the news on Instagram. The post’s caption read:
“The Queen of the Four Kings | My heart has officially been stolen | Soon to be Mrs. @biggs4k”
Four Kings Production’s CEO followed suit by posting the engagement ring. Chrisette and her soon-to-be husband Biggs celebrated their engagement with an all-white surprise engagement party in October of 2015. The party was attended by the couple’s close industry friends and family.
When asked why she chose to restart their relationship six months later on the Bossip’s Don’t Be Scared Podcast, the former Def Jam act explained:
“My boyfriend and I worked together in college and got our first record deal together.”
We got into the music business, and things went haywire with litigation, and when the litigation ended, we missed each other.”
Now that the soon-to-wed couple appears to have put their past transgressions behind them, they can concentrate on their respective careers.
Chrisette Michelle’s Albums, Songs, and Net Worth in 2018
Before the release of her debut album, “I Am,” in June 2007, music fans had become acquainted with the R&B singer through her now-classic appearances in numerous songs, including fellow Def Jam artists Jay-Lost Z’s One and Nas’ Can’t Forget About You.
“I Am” contains some of her most powerful songs, including Be Ok, which earned her a single Grammy in 2009. Chrisette’s second album, Epiphany, is widely regarded as her most significant work — a magnum opus if you will.
Chrisette Michele, who has a reported net worth of $1 million, released three more albums in the following years: Let Freedom Reign, Better, and Milestones, all on the Def Jam, Motown, and Rich Hipster labels.
Her fifth studio album, Out Of Control, is set to be released on various streaming platforms near the end of 2018.
