Imelda Staunton Discusses Her “Inconsolable” Reaction To Queen Elizabeth’s Passing

Imelda Staunton

Imelda Staunton of The Crown talked up about the atmosphere on set after Queen Elizabeth’s death was announced, as well as her reaction to it.

Imelda Staunton, who will play Queen Elizabeth in The Crown Season 5, commented on the impact of the Queen’s death on her ahead of the show’s premiere.

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96, and the Netflix drama based on her life will premiere its new season nearly two months later.

“We recorded the day after the funeral,” Staunton explained to Entertainment Tonight, “and I felt it was difficult for the other people looking at me because we had a lot of supporting artists and they were all looking at this act of playing the person who had been buried yesterday.”

Imelda Staunton’s reaction to the passing of the Queen

As she prepares to play the queen onscreen, Imelda recalls her emotional reaction to the Queen’s death in a recent interview. She recalled the incident and stated, “Everyone was quite sad, and I know I was pretty upset that evening.

My reaction took me by surprise. Naturally, I would feel something. But, after living with her for two years, it felt odd.” Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth for the fifth and sixth seasons of The Crown, after Olivia Colman and Claire Foy in the previous seasons.

Season 5 of The Crown information

The upcoming season’s plot will center on 1992 when three of her four children were separated from their spouses. The season will also include the disastrous fire that destroyed Windsor Castle, which the Queen pronounced in her address to be an “annus horribilis” (Latin for “awful year”).

Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip in the fifth season, while Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West will play Princess Diana and Prince Charles.

Season 5 of The Crown will launch on Netflix on November 9. The sixth season of the show, which is now in production, has been confirmed by creator Peter Morgan, who previously stated that the drama will not catch up to the timetable of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage.
