Antonia Gentry gained notoriety after the success of the brand-new Netflix miniseries Ginny and Georgia. Ginny, a 15-year-old girl who has grown weary of traveling throughout America with her mother Georgia (Brianne Howey), is portrayed by Gentry. However, when the pair settles in a peaceful New England hamlet, a sense of stability beckons.
Unfortunately, Georgia quickly learns that she cannot escape or conceal her enigmatic history. Although Antonia’s breakthrough role is in Ginny and Georgia, she has also made appearances in Candy Jar and Raising Dion.

Sandra and Tony Gentry welcomed Antonia Gentry into the world on September 25, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia. Sandra is Jamaican and Tony is American. Gentry didn’t have an easy childhood growing up multiracial in Atlanta, but she had her mother as a confidante and source of guidance. There is no one in Ginny’s life with whom she can discuss race. Gentry stated to Teen Vogue:
“My mother is Jamaican and Black. My mother was someone I could trust when I was growing up because, despite being a Black woman herself, she understood how I felt about my identity. Ginny and her mother don’t truly have that.
By sharing her experiences as a young biracial woman, Gentry contributed to the Black Lives Matter campaign.
She sent an emotional post on Instagram imploring followers to not only admit that racism is a problem in the USA but also to take action to end the scourge. She wrote, in part:
“I have dealt with racism my entire life. For a black girl, you are pretty. Whether it was white students at school making jokes about my father marrying a “monkey,” calling me a “mixed-mongrel mutt,” using any colorful nickname under the sun, or receiving comments from white boys like “you look better with your hair straight” or comments from white girls like “I’d love to have a mixed baby, but I don’t want to deal with all that nappy hair.”
Antonia Gentry developed blood clots
Throughout her back-and-forth travels, while attending Ginny and Georgia’s auditions, Gentry developed blood clots.
According to Antonia, who spoke to Teen Vogue, she has known since the age of 5 that she wants to be an actress.
She began her career in community theater by acting in plays written by her poet and artist mother. When she was younger, Gentry used her father’s camera to record skits. In one of those performances, she said to the camera, “I think I’m going to become an actress,” according to Teen Vogue.
The Rathskellar Comedy Improv group at Emory University helped Antonia hone her acting and comedic abilities. During her tenure at Emory University, she received her first acting role. She acknowledges that juggling full-time schooling, a part-time job, and role auditions were challenging, but it ultimately worked out.
Before Antonia graduated, the Ginny and Georgia script appeared on her desk. Despite being overburdened with graduation planning, she managed to find time to record an audition tape. Because of her busy schedule, Gentry almost failed to transmit the tape. She revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she was taken aback by the callback:
“I received the audition the same week that I received my diploma, so I was quite busy with all of my finals and tests. I was feeling a little overwhelmed, but when I got this very, really fantastic script, I decided to just record it and move on because I had so many other things to take care of. They ultimately loved it and called me again.
To connect with her castmates, Antonia Gentry used her love of karaoke
Antonia went out to develop relationships with her cast mates after landing her part in Ginny and Georgia. To accomplish her objective, she took use of her “unhealthy relationship with karaoke.” Soon after we began filming, “[we] all went to a karaoke night,” Antonia told Entertainment Weekly. We headed to a karaoke club, where I broke the ice by belting out Sia’s “Chandelier” at the top of my lungs before everyone else joined in.
Ginny’s tale has received a lot of attention in the media and online because she is one of the main characters. Although Antonia appreciates the significance of Ginny’s narrative, she also points out that the exhibit also features several other engaging and interesting experiences. She clarified:
“I believe that our main goal is for viewers to be able to identify with any one of the characters. They’re all so intricate and complicated. It’s a highly entertaining show with a lot of heart, and I would love for viewers to walk away feeling understood and able to relate to something.
