Now that R. Kelly has been detained for repeatedly sexually assaulting young girls and women, it has come to light that Joycelyn Savage, one of his alleged victims, is engaged to the R&B singer.

The 26-year-old claimed to be his fiancée, according to court documents that AllHipHop obtained. Before his 30-year sentence, the lawyer’s letter to the court asked for leniency.

A federal court in Brooklyn sentenced R. Kelly to 30 years in prison on June 28. The singer was held responsible for racketeering and sex trafficking. In a letter to Judge Ann Donnelly, Joycelyn Savage claimed that she was not the “victim” that the “government has represented” her to be. She went on to say:

“Robert and I have a wonderful friendship. The most amazing thing that has ever entered my mind is him. We have a close relationship and are deeply in love. Because I adore Robert and will always be there for him, I continue to support him.

R. Kelly is “not the monster that the government has depicted him to be,” claims Savage. She says the 55-year-old is “exceptionally nice, kind, and caring.” She went on to say:

The alleged victim continued by claiming that the criminal was “very excited” about his music. She described him as “happy, sociable, and highly giving.”

She added that the claims made by his other purported victims that he was “held against our will are entirely false.” The fiancée continued by asserting that she is not a victim and that she is “really in love” with R. Kelly. She asked the court to take this into account while sentencing Kelly as her final request in the letter.

R. Kelly and Joycelyn Savage’s Relationship

Kelly and Joycelyn Savage went to Chicago to look for work as musicians. She cut all communication with her family after turning 19, according to Capital Xtra.

Her parents asserted that she had been “brainwashed” and belonged to a “sex cult,” which Savage has since denied. Savage was released in 2019 to characterize assault incidents. She claimed in a Patreon post that Kelly had instructed her to address him as “master” or “daddy.” She continued by claiming that he was “controlling” and would yell at her.

In addition, Joycelyn Savage called him a “monster” for abandoning her when she was pregnant. Additionally, she asserted that she was coerced into having an abortion and having surgery at his home. Azriel Clary is a purported victim, just like Joycelyn Savage.

After turning 18, she hasn’t spoken to her relatives. The Lifetime documentary series Surviving R. Kelly, produced by Clary, who will turn 24 this year, explored the horrible abuse she allegedly experienced at the hands of the R&B singer. Kelly is still behind bars and a new trial is pending. In August, he will stand trial in Chicago on child pornography accusations.
