Ken Roczen won the 450MX championship in 2014, he made history by being the first German to win an MX Championship in forty years. Roczen won his first race as a rookie in Anaheim shortly after switching to the 450cc, demonstrating tremendous promise.
He won the 2014 AMA Motocross Championship by defeating Ryan Dungey, and the following year, he took home the 450-class Monster Energy Cup. Unfortunately, Ken’s career was destroyed by a string of injuries in 2017 and 2018.

On April 29, 1994, Ken was born close to Leipzig, Germany. Heiko Klepka, his father, was a rider who managed an amateur racing team, but he wasn’t particularly wealthy. When Ken began riding at his local track when he was 3 years old, it was clear that he had natural skills.
Soon after getting on the bike, Roczen began competing in races. He frequently participated in age groups above his own since he was superior to his contemporaries. Ken’s parents accompanied him to tournaments around Europe because they didn’t want to waste his talent.
The family’s RV experienced a lot of damage while traveling across the continent. The old workhorse caught fire during a voyage to Italy, yet it continued to move forward. When Ken was nine years old, sponsors began to arrive, easing the burden on his parents.

“I made the decision that we needed to separate for a while. I didn’t see us improving or moving forward. That was pretty much it; we both needed to restart our lives.

But in the third race, Ken had a terrible accident that broke practically all the bones in his left forearm. Doctors told Ken that he had a slim chance of returning to competitive racing and that he had a rough road ahead of him if he wanted to ride again.
Ken and his then-girlfriend Courtney Savage decided to completely give up motorsport. They stopped following those involved in the sport, talking about it, and watching races. With this kind of injury, Ken told ESPN, “seeing other guys succeed is the last thing you want to do.”
As Ken healed enough for the subsequent surgery, Savage hardly ever left his bed. They talked about their future together while playing cards and updating loved ones on Ken’s condition.
Savage’s assistance to Ken at that trying time persuaded him that she was the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. At a coffee shop on February 17, 2017, Ken got down on one knee and proposed to his soul mate.
We were going to be together for a very long time, I’ve known that for a while, Ken stated. “This solidified it for me, and I wanted to pop the question in Vail,” he said. For us, it’s a good place to be. From the hospital, I called her father to get his OK.

After a year of recuperation, Ken returned to the track and demonstrated that his talent had not diminished. He wasn’t fully recovered, though, and in February 2018 he had another accident that left him with fractures in his right arm. Several months later, he miraculously returned to the track and participated in the 2018 Motocross Championship.
Ken and Savage wed in the latter part of 2018. He admitted to Motocross Action Magazine that he had never considered getting married before meeting Courtney. Until I met Courtney, it was just something I never really wanted to do because my parents weren’t wed. When no one else was available, Courtney was.
