Josh Richards and Riyadh began dating at the beginning of 2018 and have been together since. Josh frequently posts to Riyadh’s Instagram account and contributes to its YouTube videos. Josh is Riyadh’s partner, not his boyfriend, as he explained in an interview with the Independent. He stated:

Josh, my comrade. Since he is my partner and not my lover, I use the term partner. Together, as a team, we are stronger and always look for ways to help one another out. He makes me laugh, brings me back to the present, and roots me. I’m crazy in love, can you tell that?”

Josh, Riyadh, and their cat, Claire, were confined to their London house during the lockdown. The pair established a schedule in which they spent quality time together in the evenings and worked in separate rooms throughout the day.

Despite their best attempts, the pair nevertheless contracted the coronavirus, according to Riyadh. On April 5, 2020, Khalaf uploaded a picture of the couple to Instagram with the caption:

“Despite our best efforts, we are both now only mildly symptomatic. Josh has a fever, I can’t smell or taste anything, and I have a slight headache. I assure you that we are OK. No chances are being taken in any case. We are currently isolated and only receive sunlight and fresh air from open windows or this flat rooftop.

Fortunately, the pair made a full recovery and are now healthy.

After Riyadh Khalaf came out to his father, he nearly killed himself

Around the age of 13 or 14, Riyadh Khalaf first noticed that he was drawn to guys. He found it confusing, but he chose to accept who he was. He hid it from his parents for a while, but after learning that Riyadh was visiting a gay website, his mother Lorraine found out.

After making her findings, Lorraine prompted Riyadh to discuss his sexual orientation. When Riyadh came out to Lorraine, she gave him an embrace. Riyadh had won, but he was aware that telling his father would be much harder.

Sam, Riyadh’s Iraqi father, grew up in a community where being gay was frowned upon. Riyadh had a strategy in mind on how to tell his dad he was gay, but he was unable to carry it through.

Because Khalaf always managed to find a reason to provoke a fight whenever Sam was around, this secret drove Riyadh further away from his father. Before she pushed him to tell Sam, Khalaf and his mother kept Riyadh’s sexual orientation a secret for nine months.

On The Late Late Show, Lorraine said, “Sam didn’t know the secret; I did.” “And after that, Riyadh just ignored Sam and reacted angrily to anything he said. The mediator was me. I wanted it to end because I love them both so much. It was time; nine months is long enough.

Riyadh was unable to speak, so he slipped Sam a note informing him of his sexual orientation. The response from Sam was worse than Riyadh had anticipated. Sam said on The Late Late Show, “My head was just thinking with the religion and the family. That’s a terrible thing, I was just saying. Shame. What will I say to people? At my lowest, I attempted suicide.

The father of Riyadh Khalaf, who accepted his son’s sexuality, is now an advocate for gay rights

Sam’s attempt at suicide ended up being a turning point in his life. He eventually came to terms with his son’s sexuality and is now an advocate for LGBT rights.

Sam’s encounter with Riyadh made him more sensitive to the issue of gay people who are confused about how to tell their loved ones they are gay and are terrified to do so.

Sam and Riyadh are at their closest point ever. During an interview with RTE, Ireland’s National Public Service Media, Khalaf lavished adulation on his father. Riyadh declared, “He is the most loving, most accepting, pro-gay, pride-marching, drag queen buddy dad that I could ask for.”

“Without my dad, I would only be half the man I am today. He is my hero, my mentor, and my world. He changed voluntarily, not accidentally. Put love before shame. I adore him because he put my viewpoint above everyone else’s. I adore him a lot.
