An actor who was born before WWII, Alan Arkin, is one of the few who is still active in the industry today. Oscar winner Steve Carell most recently lent his voice to the character of Wild Knuckles in Minions: The Rise of Gru.
He’s still working in movies, but not nearly as often as he used to. His labor output has diminished as he approaches his 88th year, and this is reflected in the number of projects he now has gone to.
In addition to the Minions movie, he only had The Kominsky Method in development. On the other hand, his stay in that location has come to an end as well.
Arkin, who has been spending less and less time in the spotlight due to old age, was lately the target of a death hoax. These rumors may have arisen as a result of his departure from The Kominsky Method.

Initial spikes in search volume for “Did Alan Arkin Die?” and “Is Alan Arkin Still Alive?” occurred in May 2021, but the death hoax around Arkin didn’t go viral until the end of June 2022.
On June 30, 2022, a few news outlets began covering a Facebook post claiming Arkin had passed away. It all started with the first line of the post: “At about 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday (June 29, 2022), our beloved actor Alan Arkin passed away.”
He was born on March 26, 1934, and the article claimed he would be “missed but not forgotten.” It also invited readers to leave comments and likes to offer their condolences.
According to reports, this caused thousands of uninformed people to flood the post with messages of condolence. The Twitterverse, it seems, reacted similarly to the prank.
The post’s true purpose soon became clear, though. The aforementioned Facebook post has been removed since this article was written.
Alan Arkin’s Exit from ‘The Kominsky Method’ and Death Reports Coincided
In 2018, Arkin began filming the pilot episode of The Kominsky Method, produced by Chuck Lorre and starring Michael Douglas. The show doesn’t shy away from confronting tough issues like mortality and addiction.
After two seasons on the show, the actor decided it was time to move on. In September 2020, just before the second season premiered on Netflix, he announced that he would be leaving the show.
As a result, Norman Newlander, his character, had to be eliminated. The writers accomplished this feat by giving Newlander a tragic death arc while still making him an integral element of the third season’s story.
Season 3 began with Newlander’s burial, with some suggestions as to how he may have died. Madelyn (Jane Seymour) played his lover, who suggested he had a very busy sex life for someone his age and, perhaps, anything wrong with his heart.
When the third season trailer for The Kominsky Method was released, fan speculation about Arkin’s death spiked dramatically.
Even after the season’s release on Netflix on May 28, 2021, the number of inquiries never stopped climbing.
Because of this, it’s easy to deduce that when Arkin’s character ceased appearing on The Kominsky Method, many viewers assumed he had passed away. Newlander, but not Arkin, was killed.
