Additional information regarding the athlete who passed suddenly following Sunday’s Ironman Wisconsin triathlon has been released by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

The man who took part was a Madison resident, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. His age was fifty-one.

The man was identified as Dax Bakken, per a GoFundMe established for Bakken’s partner and their three children.

He encountered an undiagnosed medical problem in the town of Cross Plains during the riding portion of the course.

Ironman Wisconsin stated on September 11 that Bakken was observed by race staff and an off-duty police officer to need assistance while riding the bike route.

A 51-year-old man died over the weekend while taking part in the Ironman Wisconsin triathlon, according to the event’s organizers.

Confirming the death of a racer during the IRONMAN Wisconsin triathlon on Sunday, the race organizers posted a statement on Facebook.

Dax Bakken, a military veteran who participated in Operation Desert Storm and was the father of three children, was identified as the victim and was the subject of a GoFundMe page that was created to gather money for his wife and kids.

Ironman Bakken passed out during the Cross Plains hamlet biking stage of the competition, according to Wisconsin officials.

A race official and an off-duty police officer provided him with medical attention before EMS transported him to a local hospital, where an official from the event later pronounced him dead.

The family of Dax Bakken will shortly reveal information about his obituary and funeral.

According to family members in the GoFundMe, the Loss Bakken “had trained and dreamed of” competing in the entire 140.6-mile triathlon, which consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run.
