A$AP Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers) appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Wednesday, November 9, 2023, for a preliminary hearing regarding his firearms assault charge.
After a “heated discussion” in Hollywood, California, the prosecution presented surveillance footage of the rapper holding a semi-automatic handgun and potentially firing at Ephron.
The video was initially disclosed during the hearing after the rapper’s August 2022 plea of not guilty to two counts of assault with a firearm.
Ephron, who on August 10, 2022, filed a civil suit against Rocky for assault, battery, and emotional distress, claimed he was struck by bullet fragments following the argument and testified in court that he sought medical assistance at a New York City hospital.
A photograph of Ephron’s minor injuries that was presented in the courtroom revealed faint areas of untreated, hemorrhaged epidermis on the ring, middle, and index digits of his left hand.
Ephron testified that he and Rocky attended high school in New York together as childhood companions. According to him, their relationship deteriorated when Rocky achieved solo success and developed a “big head.”
In addition, he claimed that Rocky neglected to provide financial assistance for the funeral of their Mob member and friend A$AP Josh, who passed away in October 2021.
Joseph Tacopina, Rocky’s defense counsel, refuted all allegations and stated that Rocky paid in full for Josh’s funeral.
Additionally, he posited that the video failed to depict Rocky discharging the pistol at Ephron, but rather directed it away from him.
He hypothesized that Ephron was driven by envy and avarice in fabricating his account of his injuries.
Rihanna’s Boyfriend A$AP Rocky Appears in Court on Gun Charges
Rocky’s legal issues arise at a time when he and his 35-year-old companion, Rihanna, are celebrating fatherhood.
Since 2019, the pair has been in a romantic relationship. They have two sons: Riot Rose, three months, and RZA, 18 months. This August, they welcomed their second child.
In April 2022, upon his return from a voyage to Barbados with Rihanna, who was pregnant with their first son at the time, Rocky was apprehended at LAX airport.
Rocky was apprehended by police at the airport, and his attorney, Alan Jackson, verified that the arrest was connected to the November 2021 shooting.
A$AP Rocky arrived at court on Wednesday while concealed, donning dark spectacles and a face mask.
He appeared subdued and despondent in court while attired in a dark suit and white shirt. However, following the hearing, he appeared to brighten and was observed interacting with admirers and signing autographs outside the building.
The trial is anticipated for Rocky the following year. He might spend a maximum of eight years in prison if found guilty.
