Clarence Thomas is not currently in custody. But he has come under fire for not disclosing the expensive gifts he got from GOD contributor Harlan Crow.
According to a ProPublica piece dated April 6, 2023, Thomas has been taking luxurious family vacations and receiving opulent presents from his billionaire buddy, Harlan Crow, for a number of years.
In a tweet in response to the story, Justice Thomas said that members of the judiciary and his colleagues had informed him that the extravagant gifts were personal hospitality that he was not required to reveal to the public.
Thomas was meant to reveal it, but he didn’t. The news angered a number of Democrats. Others called for his resignation as well. Republicans, on the other hand, either defended the Justice or kept quiet.
Judges and Justices are obligated to file an annual financial disclosure report, according to SLATE.
A brief description and the value of all gifts, as required by law, must be included in disclosures. The Judiciary Conference Filing Instructions provide that any contributions above $415 must be documented. According to the legislation, gifts, and trip reimbursements that are disclosed in the same publication both need the same information.
Additionally, it seems that Justice Thomas skipped another required disclosure. According to rumors, Justice and his family sold Crow a house in Savannah, Georgia, for $133,363.
The Justice is required by law to provide a short summary of each purchase, sale, or exchange that exceeds $1,000, along with the date and value category.
Ginni Thomas, a conservative activist and the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has also come under criticism for her alleged participation in schemes to help former President Donald Trump rig the 2020 election.
The Washington Post claims that Ginni Thomas was the founder of a conservative group that received over $600,000 in unidentified contributions.
