He competed for promotion in his native Kazakhstan (KZMMAF), winning five of his last seven bouts. He became the WMMAA’s Asian MMA champion in 2014 after defeating Faridun Odilov through third-round TKO to capture his first professional championship.

He successfully defended his championship in his next fight, which took place at Battle of the Nomads 11 in December 2018, against Rinat Sayakbaev.

Signing with the UFC as the first fighter from Kazakhstan, Rakhmonov faced Bartosz Fabiski on UFC Fight Night: Woodley vs. Edwards on March 21, 2020. However, the COVID-19 epidemic caused the event to be postponed.

He was scheduled to fight Ramazan Emeev on July 26, 2020, but an injury caused him to withdraw. Michel Prazeres and Neil Magny were the opponents of the accomplished UFC fighter on June 26, 2021, and June 25, 2022, at UFC on ESPN 38.
