The New Coach of the Chicago Sky

Teresa Weatherspoon, the new head coach of the Chicago Sky, is moving closer to finalizing a contract with the team, according to sources. The Sky have been looking for a new head coach since James Wade resigned in the middle of the season to become an assistant coach in the NBA.

James Wade has been with the team for five seasons and has led them to their first WNBA championship in 2021. After the season, the organization made it clear that interim head coach Emre Vatansever would not be returning as head coach. Weatherspoon will inherit a team that is ready to contend in the future.

Three-time All-Star Kahleah Copper recently signed a two-year contract extension with the Sky, who also signed outstanding rookie sharpshooter Marina Mabrey in the previous summer. Weatherspoon worked as an assistant coach with the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans for four years before her probable appointment with the Chicago Sky.

She previously served as head coach of the Westchester Phantoms (2007-2008) and as an assistant head coach at Louisiana Tech for the 2008-09 season before taking over as head coach from 2009 to 2014.
