Venables did not contest receiving a loan, but he insisted that it was not a “sale and leaseback” transaction involving property that he did not own, despite what the program implied.

His attorney asserted that the document was false in a letter to the BBC. Later, both parties agreed to pay the costs of dismissing Venables’ lawsuit against the BBC.
