Terry Venables is still alive at the age of 78. Despite there being no news of his death, his fans were concerned about his health.

On January 20, 2021, it was determined that Terry Venables had Alzheimer’s. Chris Mears posted on Twitter, “I just heard that ex-Chelsea and Tottenham player and ex-England Manager Terry Venables is very ill with Alzheimer’s – so sad.”

Other details about his illness remained a secret.

No player has ever been able to match Venables’ record because the amateur team was disbanded in 1974. Venables was the only footballer to play for England as a schoolboy, youth, amateur, Under-23, and for the full international team in addition to earning two international caps.

Alf Ramsey put him on the list of 33 “possibles” for the 1966 FIFA World Cup after he earned two caps in 1964, a 2-2 draw with Belgium and a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, but he didn’t make the final squad of 22 players.

Terry Venables Controversy: What Did He Do?

The purchase of Tottenham Hotspur by Terry Venables and Alan Sugar was the subject of a 1993 Panorama documentary on the BBC. In his financial dealings, Venables was allegedly accused of using unethical business practices by the Martin Bashir-hosted program.

It investigated claims that a former player and manager of a football team had raised £1 million through a “sale and leaseback” deal based on assets he did not own.

The letter that Panorama displayed on the screen was a mockup and not the real thing, but Panorama failed to disclose this to viewers. It was intended to represent the home that Venables had given Landhurst Leasing as security for a £1 million loan.

Despite not being an original document, a source told the Mail that the information in the graphic was “100% accurate.” They asserted that the reconstruction had been given permission to use by the BBC for the documentary team.

Venables did not contest receiving a loan, but he insisted that it was not a “sale and leaseback” transaction involving property that he did not own, despite what the program implied.

His attorney asserted that the document was false in a letter to the BBC. Later, both parties agreed to pay the costs of dismissing Venables’ lawsuit against the BBC.
