Ja Morant has been suspended from all team activities, the Memphis Grizzlies announced, after he appeared to be brandishing a gun in an Instagram video.
“Ja Morant is suspended from all team activities pending a League review,” the Grizzlies tweeted. “We have no further comments at this time.”
It is unclear when this occurred and where Morant was during the filming of the video. This is the second time Morant has been seen brandishing what appears to be a gun on social media. In early March, the Grizzlies player live-streamed a video of himself brandishing an apparent firearm in a Denver nightclub on Instagram.
After this incident, the NBA suspended him for eight games without pay. Police also investigated Morant, but decided not to file charges.
“GPD was unable to establish probable cause for the filing of any charges,” the Glendale Police Department said in a March statement. Although the video was disturbing enough to warrant an investigation, there was insufficient evidence to file criminal charges.
After the incident involving the initial video, Morant issued an apology statement.
“I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis, and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down,” he said. “I’m going to take some time off to seek assistance and work on learning better ways to manage stress and my overall health.”
The athlete has not yet issued a statement regarding the latest video to surface. His representative has also not yet issued a statement. CBS News has contacted the NBA regarding the incident.
