Jack Higgins passed away at the age of 92. Popular thrillers and spy novels, such as The Eagle Has Landed, were the author’s forte.
According to HarperCollins, Higgins passed away at his home on the English Channel island of Jersey, surrounded by his family. CEO Charlie Redmayne stated that Jack’s passing marked the end of an era. He declared:
For as long as I can remember, I have been a Jack Higgins fan. He exemplified a thriller author: he was instinctive, tough, and unforgiving.
The Eagle Has Landed, along with his other Liam Devlin novels, his later Sean Dillon series, and a multitude of other works was and continue to be utterly captivating.
Very saddened to hear of the passing of master novelist Jack Higgins at the age of 92. When I first read ‘The Eagle Has Landed’ in 1976 at Sibford School, the novel just swept me away.

Jack Patterson, who was born Henry Patterson on July 27, 1929, was the best-selling author of popular thrillers and spy novels. His bestselling novel The Eagle Has Landed has been adapted into a blockbuster picture.
The Richest estimates Higgins’ net worth to be roughly $86 million as of November 2022. Although precise information regarding his assets is unavailable, it is known that he made a substantial amount of money from his literary career.

Jack Higgins was born to an English father and a Northern Irish mother in Northern Ireland. His mother returned with him to her birthplace of Belfast, Northern Ireland, to live with her mother and grandparents on Shankill Road when his father abandoned them.
His family went to Leeds after his mother remarried and he was awarded a scholarship to Roundhay Grammar School for Boys. Jack began his two-year national service in 1947.
Initially serving with the East Yorkshire Regiment, he then served as a noncommissioned officer with the Royal Horse Guards Regiment of the Household Cavalry, executing border protection along the East German border.
He left the military and returned to Beckett Park Teacher Training College in Leeds, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in sociology as an external student at the London School of Economics.
After three years of studies, he graduated with honors while working as a nighttime driver and laborer.
He then began instructing at Allerton Grange Comprehensive School, where he was responsible for teaching social psychology and criminology. Later, he taught education and liberal studies at Leeds Polytechnic and James Graham College.
The native of Newcastle began writing books in 1959. His early works featured cynical, hardened protagonists, vicious villains, and perilous situations.
Between 1959 and 1974, he authored 35 books, with East of Desolation, A Game for Heroes, and The Savage Day being the most successful. The Savage Day and A Prayer for the Dying were Higgins’s first minor blockbusters in the early 1970s.
The Eagle Has Landed, his 36th novel, garnered recognition in 1975. The notion centered on a German commando team dispatched to the United Kingdom to kidnap Winston Churchill.
In 1992, following the release of Eye of the Storm, he launched the third phase of his illustrious career. It was a dramatized tale of a failed mortar attack on British Prime Minister John Major by Sean Dillon, a young Irish gunman, and philosopher employed by an Iraqi businessman.
