Her family, friends, and community are all crushed by the news that composer and trumpeter Jaimie Branch passed away at her Red Hook, Brooklyn, home on Monday, August 22 at 9:21 p.m. Jaimie was a daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and teacher who touched many people’s lives with her music and soul. Her music and soul are both brave, honest, and beautiful, and they will endure forever in ears and hearts.
The declaration continued,
“Jaimie’s family asks for your action as well as your prayers,” they say. Just as Jaimie did for all of us, show your love and support for family, friends, and anybody else who is in need.
Details on Branch’s funeral have not yet been released, and her cause of death has not been made public.

Jaimie Branch, who was born on June 17, 1983, first picked up the trumpet when he was nine years old. She relocated to the Wilmette neighborhood of Chicago when she was 14 and enrolled at Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music.
After graduating from college, Branch moved back to Chicago and began working with local musicians Jason Ajemian, Keefe Jackson, Tim Daisy, Anton Hatwich, and Ken Vandermark as a performer, managers, and sound engineers. In Chicago and New York, she performed onstage with Toby Summerfield, Frank Rosaly, Tim Daisy, Daniel Levin, Matt Schneider, and others.
Branch was in the band Block and Tackle with Jason Stein, Jeb Bishop, and Jason Roebke from 2006 until 2008. She started the record label Pionic Records in 2012 and enrolled at Towson University for a master’s degree in jazz performance.
After two years, she left Towson to seek heroin addiction therapy in New York. In 2015, she moved to Brooklyn and started working with a variety of artists, including Mike Pride, Jason Nazary, Fred Lonberg-Holm, and many others.
Jaimie has also worked on records with independent rock groups like Atlas Moth, Local H, and Never Enough Hope. She worked alongside Tomeka Reid, Chad Taylor, Jason Ajemian, Mike Pride, Tobey Cederberg, Shayna Dulberger, Yoni Kretzmer, and Weasel Walter the next year.
Fly or Die, her debut solo album, was released in 2017. Fly or Die II: Bird Dogs of Paradise, her second studio album, was released in 2019 via International Anthem. Branch’s musical influences were Miles Davis, Don Cherry, Axel Dorner, Booker Little, and others.
