He was elected to parliament in 2018 as a member of the Social Liberal Party; however, he subsequently changed the name of the party to a conservative one before breaking ties.

In 2021, he adopted the Libertarian Liberal Party. From 1991 until 2018, Bolsonaro served as the state representative for Rio de Janeiro in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies.

After graduating from the Agulhas Negras Military Academy in 1977, he joined the Brazilian Army’s field artillery and parachutist units.

He initially came to the notice of the public in 1986 when he wrote an editorial in Veja magazine criticizing the low pay of military leaders.

After being detained for 15 days, he was released. A year later, the same magazine accused him of trying to conceal explosives in military formations, which he vehemently denied.

Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro is now more subject to judicial and electoral probes.

The fact that he lost a significant amount of protection from prosecution when he resigned on Sunday, this might lead to his arrest or prevent him from running for office again.

Bolsonaro, a nationalist on the far right, left Brazil on Friday for Florida after falling short to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the country’s most divisive election in a decade.

It is not yet clear how long he will remain in Florida, the state where his political idol, former U.S. President Donald Trump, resides.

Bolsonaro is protected from any impending legal peril in Brazil, where he is the subject of at least four criminal investigations, by his travel to the United States.

Beyond that, Lula’s political calculations—who was himself imprisoned by the Supreme Court in 2018—, as well as the direction that fanatical Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes takes, might decide his destiny.

Where is Jair Bolsonaro, a former president of Brazil, now incarcerated?

Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro once tried to predict the outcome of his 2022 reelection campaign: “Prison, death, or victory.”

This wasn’t a triumph. Death came in the form of his presidency coming to an end, which he grudgingly accepted on Tuesday, two days after his opponent’s win had been officially declared.

Many believe that the aggressive Bolsonaro’s future in jail may be quite real, even if it may take years.

Bolsonaro racked up complaints and investigations for everything from misinformation operations to crimes against humanity from the start of his controversial time in office in 2019.

He withstood impeachment more than 150 times, which is a record.

His inept management of the coronavirus outbreak, which caused more than 685,000 deaths in Brazil, the second-highest death toll globally (after the United States), was to blame for the majority of fatalities.

Jair Bolsonaro’s private life

Bolsonaro has five children from three previous marriages. He was married to Rogéria Nantes Braga before. His second marriage was with Ana Cristina Valle.

In 2007, he wed Michelle de Paula Firmo Reinaldo, his third and current spouse.

Michelle was a member of Congress when Bolsonaro hired her as a secretary; during the next two years, she received remarkable promotions and saw a more than threefold increase in compensation.

He was compelled to fire her when the Supreme Federal Court ruled that nepotism is illegal in public administration.

As of 2018, Bolsonaro and his wife lived in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.

Bolsonaro has three grandchildren, two from his son Flávio and one from his son Eduardo.

Eduardo and Flávio Bolsonaro are Evangelical Protestant Christians and members of the Baptist Church in Brazil.
