Bettcher’s coaching career began at the University of St. Francis, where he attended college. I worked as an excellent group facilitator and guarded line mentor from 2003 to 2005. He was also the chief track mentor in 2003 and 2004, and he worked with the quality and shaping teams. The Cougars appeared in three postseason games during Bettcher’s tenure at St. Francis, including two national championship games.

During his time as an understudy contender at St. Francis, Bettcher was a three-time NAIA All-America Scholar, a three-time Mid-States Football Association Scholar, a two-time NAIA Coaches’ All-America selection, and a two-time Don Hansen’s All-America selection.

He was named an all-star three times and received the St. Francis Helmet Award for initiative and coachability in 2002. Bettcher was a four-time Cougar track and field All-American, finishing second in the shot put at the NAIA Championships in 2001. Similarly, in 2021, he was hired as a defensive assistant by the San Francisco 49ers.
