In the 1970s and 1980s, the rock and roll scene of James Hetfield was rife with drugs and debauchery.
Some rock stars began popping pills as a pre-concert recreational activity as their fame, pressure, and money grew.
As a result, many musicians have met with fatal consequences, leaving cautionary tales in their wake.
Some, however, are still struggling with their past, and one such artist is Metallica’s lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, co-founder, and main songwriter, James Hetfield.
According to James Hetfield, his wife did the right thing.

Hetfield appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast in December 2016 for an interview with the famous host, Joe Rogan.
During the conversation, the guitarist revealed his journey to sobriety.
He stated that the fear of losing his family, which included his wife and two children, was the most powerful motivator for him.
He was afraid of losing his family again because he had lost his parents so young.
Hetfield was evicted from his home by his wife, Francesca, and ended up living on his own, which he did not want.
“[My wife] did the right thing, she kicked my ass out of the house, and that terrified me,” Metallica’s frontman explained.
He realized he needed to rebuild his life once he was alone and sought treatment in after-care facilities.
He also went to marriage counseling with his wife, and he stated that their marriage was stronger than ever.
The singer thanked his wife for putting up with something she didn’t want and still sticking by him through his difficulties.
Parenting Advice from James Hetfield
Hetfield also stated in the same interview that his relationship with his children had improved.
He was open and honest with them, and they respected him for who he was and what he had been through. His older daughter had even started teasing him.
Previously, the legendary rock star admitted that balancing his music career and family life was difficult for him.
According to Loudwire, Hetfield discussed his mistakes as a father once he turned 50 in a different interview.
He explained that as an artist, he felt obligated to do more for his fans, which caused him to neglect his family.
“There was a fork in the road when I turned 50. So I’m thinking, ‘Maybe I should fall even lower and show my fans how much I care about them.’ But I forgot about the other division: my family “said the artist.
Hetfield admitted that his upbringing was not an excuse for his mistakes.
“Just because my family disintegrated when I was a kid doesn’t mean my parents didn’t love me unconditionally. I know there are parents who struggle with loving their children “Hetfield stated.
He added that he either smothered his children with control or simply let them be, but being a parent was exhausting in either case.
