His gallerist verified to BBC News that Reid passed away on Tuesday, adding that he leaves an “enormous legacy”

Jamie Reid passed away on January 16, 1947, and died on August 8, 2023, according to a statement from the John Marchant Gallery.

“Iconoclast, anarchist, punk, bohemian, renegade, and artist. Jamie leaves behind a cherished daughter, Rowan, and a granddaughter, Rose, as well as a substantial legacy.

The cause of Reid’s Death has not been disclosed

In a tribute, author Jon Savage, who had previously collaborated with Jamie Reid, remarked, “His ability to render complex ideas in eye-catching visuals was the ideal complement to their content.”

Reid’s writing frequently resembled a ransom note, with letters that appeared to have been cut out of newspaper headlines.

His Décollage-style artwork appeared on the album cover of Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols, and on the band’s UK single Anarchy.

Jamie Reid, who was born in London in 1947, attended Wimbledon Art School and then Croydon Art School, where he encountered the future manager of the Sex Pistols, Malcolm McLaren.

His controversial artwork for God Save The Queen featured a defaced Cecil Beaton photograph of Queen Elizabeth II superimposed on a Union flag background.

The Tate Britain, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston are among the institutions that hold Reid’s works.

In addition to his contributions to the punk movement, he also created a variety of abstract colorful works.
