He disclosed to the department chair his plans to participate in American Idol while still pursuing his master’s degree. The head was initially aboard. But the head told him after the first week that he couldn’t have it all. He told Copeland that American Idol will always be on to convince him to stay in school.
Copeland, however, was aware that it was untrue because the singing competition program had already been scrapped. He ultimately had no choice but to discontinue graduate school to pursue his passion. Does the musician have any regrets about quitting? There aren’t any,

Thanks to the platinum ticket, he was able to bypass the opening round of the Hollywood Week tournament. With his rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours),” Copeland dazzled the judges.
After his performance, he received a standing ovation from all of the judges. “Your expertise is off the charts,” said Lionel Richie before adding, “We’ve been waiting for you to step through that door.” Luke Bryan, meanwhile, claimed to be faultless.
