On June 23rd, the Boston Celtics made Jaylen Brown the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. After averaging 16.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.3 steals in six Summer League games, Brown signed his rookie scale contract with the Celtics. On October 26 against the Brooklyn Nets, he played in his first game for the Celtics, scoring nine points on 3-for-4 shooting and adding two blocks in more than 19 minutes.

On November 3rd, Brown made his first career start against the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring 19 points. He played in 78 games for the Celtics during the regular season, making 20 starts.
