In January 2019, billionaire Jeff Bezos made public his relationship with Lauren Sánchez. Wedding bells will resound for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez.
A source confirms to PEOPLE that the Amazon founder, 59, is engaged to the Emmy-winning journalist, 53.
The couple received the good news while on vacation in the south of France. Over the weekend, the couple was photographed enjoying a playful outing and attending the Cannes Film Festival premiere of “Killers of the Flower Moon” by Apple Original Films.
On Sunday, the helicopter pilot was also spotted wearing a ring on that finger while spending time with the oligarch on his $500 million yacht named Koru. A wooden sculpture resembling Sánchez is displayed on the same yacht.
Attached to the prow of the ship is a necklace bearing the Mori symbol for Koru, which means loop or helix. It is based on the spiral shape of a silver fern frond unfurling; it is a special symbol for the couple.
Koru represents new beginnings, which Bezos has previously referenced on his Instagram, as well as a new phase of life, positive transformation, personal development, and hope for the future.
The newly engaged couple went public with their relationship in January 2019, following Bezos’ 25-year divorce from MacKenzie Scott, with whom he shares four children.
The former Good Day LA co-host was also divorcing her spouse of thirteen years, Patrick Whitesell, at the time. Sanchez has two children with the agent, in addition to a son from a previous relationship with the former NFL star Tony Gonzalez.
Bezos and Sánchez have continued to grow closer over the years, taking family vacations, advocating for climate change, and engaging in PDA.
“Happy birthday to the man of my dreams, whose laughter and kindness illuminate my universe. You have shown me that there is no great affection that is not fought for valiantly,” Sánchez wrote in a birthday message to him in January.
She added,
“I am so grateful for the memories we’ve created and the adventures that lie ahead.” “Here’s to many more birthdays filled with love and laughter.”
Since February 2021, when he stepped down as CEO of Amazon, Bezos has focused on conservation and his space exploration company, Blue Origin.
Sánchez has been by his side every step of the way, and they are both committed to their work for the Bezos Earth Fund, an initiative they created to combat climate change, which she co-chairs.
In a joint interview with CNN conducted in November, the founder of Amazon stated that he intends to give away the majority of his $124 billion fortune during his lifetime, focusing primarily on combating climate change and supporting those who can aid in bridging the vast divide over social and political issues.
“The difficult part is figuring out how to leverage it,” he said of his charitable strategy. “It is not simple. Creating Amazon was not simple.
It required a great deal of effort, a large number of intelligent, hard-working teammates, and I’m finding — and I believe Lauren is discovering the same thing — that charity and philanthropy are very similar.”
